- Cadence
- Weekly, bi-weekly or monthly
An update without validation just moves the dates.
Regular schedule updates are only valuable when progress is verified, logic is maintained and variance is explained. Too often an update rolls the data date forward, recalculates and reports a new finish date with no explanation of what changed or why. Over time out-of-sequence progress and broken logic make the forecast unreliable.
Signals you need this
- The finish date moves each month and nobody can say why
- Actual dates are entered without being checked against field records
- Out-of-sequence progress is building up
- Narratives describe activities instead of explaining variance
- Near-critical paths are not tracked until they become critical
A disciplined update cycle

- 01
Set the data date and cutoff
A clear progress cutoff so every party is reporting the same period.
- 02
Capture and validate progress
Actual starts, finishes and remaining durations are checked against daily reports, inspections and field walks.
- 03
Maintain the logic
Out-of-sequence progress, new work and changed sequences are corrected in the logic, not hidden by constraints.
- 04
Calculate and analyse
Compare the critical and near-critical paths, milestone variance and float trends with the previous update.
- 05
Report and act
A narrative that explains what changed and why, with an action register the team can work from.
Six steps that make an update worth reading.

What you receive.
Scaled to the project and its contract requirements. Assumptions and exclusions are agreed at kickoff, so there are no surprises later.
Current schedule
Updated, validated and recalculated in the native platform.
Update narrative
Plain-language explanation of progress, variance, causes and outlook.
Critical path assessment
Current critical and near-critical paths compared with the last update.
Milestone variance
Forecast against baseline and the previous update for every key milestone.
Look-ahead reporting
Short-interval views for coordination meetings.
Action register
Owners, actions and dates for issues that threaten milestones.

Weekly or monthly updates?
Monthly updates often meet contract requirements. Weekly or bi-weekly cycles are useful during commissioning, recovery or other fast-moving phases. We recommend a cadence based on how quickly decisions need to be made.
Who provides the progress?
Usually the contractor or project team. We validate it against field records and raise questions where reported progress and evidence don't agree.
Can you report in our format?
Yes. Reporting is tailored to the decisions the client needs to make and can feed existing dashboards.
